Dorte Kristensen (Aarhus 1963) is architect-director of Atelier PRO architects, a Dutch design firm for architecture, interior and urban design. The practice employs fifty professionals in architecture, interior design and engineering. Her contextual designs focus on creating healthy living environments that stimulate personal development and improve the existing spatial qualities. Dorte’s oeuvre features public buildings with social functions, residences, cure, care, assisted living, educational and cultural environments.
Her design approach has led to internationally awarded projects in healthcare (Meander Medical Centre, Scheldehof Residential Care Centre) and education (Moscow Letovo School campus). It is the wellbeing of the user that significantly prevails in Dorte’s design philosophy. The realized projects demonstrate the balance between context and architecture, but also between functionality and the building as community symbol.
