Born in London in 1972, he was educated at Stonyhurst College and then studied history of the Univeristy of East Anglia. 

He is the author of three books on history,  urbanism and the future of cities. The Phoenix and The Stones of London tell the story of London. Cities Are Good for You: The Genius of the Metropolis, was published in the UK, US and Russia (Strelka) and was an international best seller. He talks regularly about cities, technology and design around the world including two TED talks. He contributes regularly in the UK media.
