Background

Werner Zobek was born in 1953 in the town of Aalen in Germany. From 1974 to 1980, he studied at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture at the University of Stuttgart. From 1980 to 1986, he also completed postgraduate studies there. 

In 1991, Zobek became a professor at the University of Hanover and director of the Institute of Structural Engineering and Construction. In 1992, he founded his own company, Werner Sobek, which currently has offices in Stuttgart, Frankfurt, New York, Moscow, Cairo and Dubai.

Architect and engineer Werner Zobek became widely known for his eco–sustainable projects - buildings that are able to provide themselves with all the necessary energy.

Zobek is the architect of the Iset Tower in Yekaterinburg (209 m high with a spire), a skyscraper that is part of the future Yekaterinburg City business district.

Werner Zobek directs the ILEK Institute for Lightweight Structures and Conceptual Design at the University of Stuttgart and is the Mies van der Rohe Professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.
