
Diru Tadani
Background
Diru Tadani has been practicing architecture and urbanism since 1980. He was engaged in the implementation of the principles and methods of traditional urban planning on all five continents, conducting lectures, research and specific projects. He was the chief architect of new cities and towns, urban development projects and student campuses, urban restoration, etc..
Diru was born in Bombay, India, and moved to Washington, D.C., in 1972 to study architecture. For 47 years in Washington, he taught, practiced, and sought to attract public interest in architecture and traditional urbanism. Diru Tadani has been a member of the Congress for New Urbanism (CNU) since its formation in 1993, and served as Chairman and Board Member of the Working Group from 1997 to 2013. He has received seven CNU awards for master plans designed under his leadership.
In 2016, Diru Tadani was elected Vice President for Membership and Treasurer of the International Community of Urban and Regional Planners (ISOCARP).
Diru is the author of the book "The Language of Cities: a Visual Dictionary" (2010), co-editor of the book by Leon Krier: "Architecture of the Community" (2009).
