Background

Professor Thomas Schroepfer received his doctorate and Master's degree with honors from Harvard University. He began his academic career at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, where he was appointed Senior Lecturer in Architecture in 2004 and Associate Professor of Architecture in 2008. After joining the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) in 2011, he became the Founding Director and Deputy Head of the Architecture and Sustainable Design Program. He is currently Co-director of the SUTD-JTC I3 Center and Director of the university's award-winning Advanced Architecture Laboratory.

Many of Thomas Schrepfer's works have been exhibited at significant international venues, including the Venice Biennale and the World Architecture Festival (WAF). His books have been translated into several languages, including "Densely Populated + Green Cities: Architecture as an Urban Ecosystem" (2020), "Densely Populated + Green: Innovative Types of Buildings for Sustainable Urban Architecture" (2016) and "Ecological Urban Architecture" (2012). Professor Schroepfer is the recipient of prestigious awards and recognitions, including the President's Design Award, Singapore's highest award given to designers in all fields; the German Design Award; and the Asia Education Leadership Award.
