He is the CEO and President of Ingenieursozietaet Professor Dr.-Ing. Katzenbach GmbH, Director of the Research Institute of Geotechnics and Head of the Department of the Technical University of Darmstadt.
Professor Katzenbach studied civil engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt at the Faculty of Geotechnics and Design of Buildings, Structures and building structures using reinforced concrete products. After receiving his master's degree in 1976 (= diploma from the Technical University), he worked as a researcher at the Technical University of Darmstadt, where in 1981 he defended his doctoral thesis on "New methods of tunnel construction in an urban environment."

After receiving his master's degree in 1976, Professor Katzenbach began research at the Technical University of Darmstadt, where he defended his thesis with honors, on the basis of which he was awarded his doctorate in 1981.
Since 1981, Professor Katzenbach has been working as a Consulting Engineer in the field of geotechnics, simultaneously conducting scientific research and participating in numerous major national and international projects. For example, he was actively involved in checking the reliability of the structures of Germany's tallest skyscraper, the Commerzbank Tower in Frankfurt, Russia's tallest building, the Federation Tower in Moscow, as well as the world's tallest skyscraper, 1007 m in Jeddah / Saudi Arabia.
In 1993, Professor Katzenbach was appointed Director of the Research Institute of Geotechnics at the Technical University of Darmstadt, and since that time he has been the head of the Department of Geotechnics. In the same year, he founded his own private consulting company, which he heads together with his partners Professor Vogler and engineer Seip (Dipl.-Ing. Seip).
