Background
Dirk Jan Postel graduated from Delft University of Technology and became a partner of the architectural firm Kraaijvanger in 1992.
His work is appreciated for its sober, minimalistic style and sense of perfection. Focusing on details and having a thorough knowledge of materials (especially glass), he implemented a variety of projects such as museums, town halls, offices, schools, a glass pavilion, a theater, a transport center, and an embassy. Transparency, stability, spatial relationships and a high level of comfort are the most important elements of his approach.
Dirk Jan Postel is a guest lecturer at various universities around the world and conducts annual master classes on sustainable development at the RISEBA Graduate School of Business, Arts and Technology (Riga, Latvia).
In 1994, Dirk Jan Postel formulated the concept of "zero energy consumption" with Ecotopia. His own house became a realized example of this idea already in 2008. In 2016, he designed his first energy-efficient house near Alicante, Spain.
Today, Kraaijvanger architects are working on several zero-consumption projects and even on energy-efficient projects for both residential and commercial real estate, using solar, wind and biological energy, as well as the latest generation of power supplies.
