Background

Piero has 10 years of experience in developing climate change policy and planning for sustainable urban development.

He is currently Director of Sustainability for Milan and Head of the H2020 Lighthouse Research and Innovation program within the framework of the Sharing Cities project in the Municipality of Milan. The Sharing Cities project is a collaboration on smart city issues in collaboration with the European Innovation Partnership for Smart Cities and Communities. Piero Pelizzaro is an advisor to the Italian Minister of Environment and Land and Sea Protection on urban adaptation to climate change.

In recent years, Piero has been co-owner of the Italian consulting company Climalia, which provides climate change adaptation services, where he worked as a sustainability specialist. Piero Pelizzaro also served as co–director of Acclimatise, a company whose mission is to make the world more resilient to climate change.

Piero is a member of the Mayors Adapt Working Group, an initiative of the Agreement of Mayors, which was established by the European Commission with the aim of involving cities in actions aimed at adapting to climate change, as well as a member of the working group on the implementation of the FIRe 2016 project in the framework of climate policy.

Piero Pelizzaro is a member of the advisory board of the European Union's Ramses FP7 research program, which aims to structure a cost–benefit analysis methodology for urban Adaptation Plans.

Piero writes for various specialized magazines and web portals on climate change issues.
