  • In 1971, he graduated with honors from Moscow State University with a degree in Geological Surveying and Prospecting for Mineral Deposits. In the period 1965-1971, he worked as a laboratory assistant, senior laboratory assistant, and then as an engineer at the Institute of Mineralogy, Geochemistry, and Crystal Chemistry of Rare Elements of the USSR Ministry of Geology.
  • In 1971, he entered the postgraduate program at the O.Y. Schmidt Institute of Physics of the Earth of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
  • In 1974, he defended his thesis for the degree of Candidate of Geological Sciences.
  • In 1974, he was hired permanently by the staff of the Institute of Physics and Technology of the USSR Academy of Sciences, where over the years he held the positions of junior, senior, and leading researcher.

  • Research interests: the main field is seismotectonics, tectonics of strong earthquake foci; other fields are modern geodynamics; earthquake forecasting, seismic hazard assessment, seismic zoning.
