Background
He graduated from the Architectural Faculty of the Rostov Civil Engineering Institute (1976), and completed postgraduate studies at the Moscow Art Institute (1981).

Professional Background
In 1977, he participated in the creation of the complex "Panorama of the Pleven Epic-1877", Pleven, Bulgaria.
From 1988 to 1999, he worked on the creation of the Rostov Architectural Institute and the system of pre-university architectural and artistic training in the South of Russia. He was vice-rector of the RAI, head of the department, and was accepted into the Unions of Architects, Artists, and Designers of Russia.
Since 1999, he has been working at the RASN (Moscow).
In 2004-2014, he was the Chief Scientific Secretary of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Since 2007, he has been the Vice-rector for Scientific Work at the MARCHI.
In 2010-2013, he was a visiting professor at Beijing Jiao Tong University, Beijing, China.
Since 2015, he has been Chairman of the Federal Educational and Methodological Association "Architecture" of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.
Since 2016, he has been the head of the Department of Temple Architecture at the MARCHI, an expert of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and a member of expert and scientific councils.
He is the author of more than 350 works, including 10 monographs, a series of developments for pre-university and higher architectural, artistic and design education.
Participant of Russian and foreign art exhibitions, architectural competitions, author of museum and exhibition exhibitions, paintings and graphics.
