
Background
Emre Erkal is engaged in architectural practice at Erkal Architects in Ankara and Istanbul in Turkey, working on award-winning and nominated projects including WAF, 2A Awards and National Architecture Awards. Previously, he worked at Skidmore Owings & Merrill (SOM) in New York on many high-level international projects in various cities around the world.
Prior to receiving his degree in architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, he earned a degree in electronic engineering and was a researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Indiana Institute and other universities. He also received his PhD from Istanbul Technical University.
He also has experience in technology and design, creates interactive digital art installations and is a member of the jury at several art and cultural venues, including the Istanbul Biennale, ZKM, Ars Electronica, SIGGRAPH, Mediamatic and others.
He is a teacher of architecture, urban design, interactive technologies, digital design and acoustics.
