Background

He graduated from the Architectural Faculty of the St. Petersburg Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I. E. Repin.

After graduating from the University in 1986, he worked in the architectural workshop of V. B. Fabritsky, then from 1989 - as an independent architect. In 1991, he moved to Germany, where since 1992 he has worked at the Hamburg architectural firm Nietz Prasch Sigl. In 1995, he became the managing partner of the bureau, named NPS tchoban voss, and headed its Berlin office. Today this company is called Tchoban Voss Architekten. In 2003, he opened the architectural bureau Choban and Partners in Moscow. In 2006, through a merger with the bureau S. P. Project, together with Sergey Kuznetsov, he created the architectural association MATCH and became its managing partner. In 2009, he founded the Tchoban Foundation Museum for Architectural Drawing, a charitable foundation for architectural drawing. Since 2017, he has been the curator and chairman of the jury of the Russian Youth Architecture Biennale.

Architectural bureau MATCH is one of the largest and most successful design organizations in Russia. Headed today by Sergey Choban, Igor Membov and Anton Pavlov, the bureau specializes in the design of buildings and complexes of various functional purposes, the development of urban planning concepts, as well as the creation of public interiors and exhibition design facilities. MATCH's projects have been implemented in many Russian cities (Moscow, Moscow Region, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Sochi, Krasnodar, Rostov-on-Don), as well as abroad (Berlin, Milan, Venice, Minsk), and have been awarded numerous Russian and international architectural awards. The company employs not only architects, but also designers, engineers, and project managers: combining various specialists in one team allows the MATCH to develop comprehensive solutions and participate in all stages of project work.
