Background
The department takes an active part in the development of the regulatory framework for the design and construction of buildings and structures.
The staff of the department represents MGSU in the Association for the Development of Steel Construction, where they are actively working to improve the structural solutions of steel frames of multi-storey buildings.
Currently, the department employs 6 professors, 10 associate professors, 3 senior lecturers, and 2 assistants. There are 6 graduate students in the graduate school.
During the existence of the department, its staff has produced more than 25 textbooks for universities, more than 40 monographs, more than 30 textbooks, and prepared more than 250 candidates of technical sciences. They worked at the department: Alexander Nikolaevich Geniev, Viktor Alekseevich Baldin, Konstantin Konstantinovich Kupalov, Alexander Nikolaevich Kikin, Konstantin Konstantinovich Mukhanov, Stepan Alexandrovich Ilyasevich, Evgeny Nikolaevich Lessig, Vera Semenovna Ignatieva, Georgy Stanislavovich Vedenikov, Arkady Borisovich Pukhovsky, Boris Yulievich Uvarov and many others are outstanding scientists, doctors of technical sciences who have made a significant contribution to the development of building metal structures.
In the 80s, the staff of the department reached 37 units. In the 90s, the teaching staff of the department decreased significantly and amounted to 25 full-time units.
