Background

Higher education. Mining engineer and mine builder. In 1979, he graduated from the V. V. Vakhrushev Sverdlovsk Mining Institute with a degree in Construction of Underground Structures and Mines.

  • Since 1978, he has been working in research positions at the Institute of Mining in the laboratories of: rock pressure; sinking and fastening of mine workings; construction of underground structures; rock displacement and prevention of man-made disasters.
  • In 1987, after completing postgraduate studies at the IGD of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the USSR, he defended his PhD thesis on "Control of rock pressure during the development of ore deposits by a chamber system", specializing in 05.15.02 "Underground mining of mineral deposits".
  • In 1994, A.E. Balek was awarded the academic title of "Senior Researcher". In 2004, he completed his correspondence doctoral studies at IGD Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and in 2007 defended his doctoral thesis on "Management of the stress-strain state of a rock mass during underground mining of ore deposits with collapse systems," specialty 25.00.20 "Geomechanics, rock destruction, mine aerogasdynamics and mining thermophysics." Currently, he is a leading researcher at the Laboratory of Geomechanics of Underground structures.
