Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education "National Research Moscow State University of Civil Engineering" (NRU MGSU) (until 1993, the Kuibyshev Moscow Institute of Civil Engineering) was established in 1921.

The mission of NRU MGSU is to create a system of advanced personnel and scientific support for the process of qualitative modernization of the investment and construction complex for the successful solution of priority state tasks of high-tech and social development of Russia based on the formation of an innovative scientific and educational base for training modern builders and architects who create a safe, energy-efficient and comfortable living environment, the integration principles of industry science, professional education and information resources, effective use of modern public-private partnership mechanisms to realize the intellectual potential of specialized scientific and educational institutions, create world-class high-tech products, transfer technology and creativity in the most important social spheres of human creative activity – construction and architecture.
