Vladimir Yakushev will speak at the plenary session of the celebration of World Cities Day in Yekaterinburg

Minister of Construction, Housing and Communal Services of the Russian FederationVladimir Yakushev will make a presentation at the opening of the celebration of World Cities Day in Yekaterinburg on October 31, 2019. The international event will be held in the Congress Hall of the International Exhibition Center "Yekaterinburg-EXPO" in the plenary hall from 10.00-11.20.

The Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region, Evgeny Kuyvashev, and the Head of Yekaterinburg, Alexander Vysokinsky, will open the World Cities Day. Greetings will be delivered on behalf of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Director of the UN Information Center in Moscow Vladimir Kuznetsov will speak, and the Executive Director of UN-Habitat, Maimouna Mohd Sharif, will continue the introductory part.

Nikolay Tsukanov, Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Ural Federal District, Jiang Wanrong, Deputy Minister of Housing and Urban Development of China, and Marcin Krupa, Mayor of Katowice (Poland), will make presentations at the plenary session. Vladimir Yakushev, Minister of Construction and Housing of the Russian Federation, will make a report on the integrated development of cities and the formation of a new quality of life.

After the end of the plenary session, a presentation of the latest edition of ShanghaiManual (City of Shanghai) will take place with the participation of Zheng Zhang, Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development of China, Alexander Vysokinsky, Head of Yekaterinburg, and Maimuna Mohd Sharif, Executive Director of UN-Habitat.

The celebration of World Cities Day under the auspices of UN-Habitat will be held in Yekaterinburg on October 30-31, 2019. The main theme is "The better the city, the better life." The sub-theme is "Changing the world: Innovation and a better life for future generations." The main objective of World Cities Day is to draw attention to urbanization trends, challenges and prospects for sustainable urban development, support international cooperation and contribute to global efforts to build balanced, prosperous and sustainable cities, as well as improve people's living conditions and quality of life.
