The first industry Worldskills standards championship in the field of urban planning and urban studies Urban Skills 2021 will be held in Yekaterinburg.
From October 5-8, 2021, the First Worldskills Industry Championship in the field of urban planning and urbanism Urban Skills 2021 will be held at the Yekaterinburg-Expo IEC, as part of the international construction forum and the 100+ TechnoBuild exhibition.
The championship will be attended by employees of small, medium and large businesses in the field of construction and housing and communal services, as well as students of secondary and higher education institutions aged 18 to 49 years.
The championship is held in accordance with the cooperation agreement between the Government of the Sverdlovsk Region and the autonomous non-profit organization Agency for the Development of Professional Skills (Worldskills Russia), signed in July 2021 as part of the INNOPROM International Industrial Exhibition.
"Solving problems in the field of urban planning and urban planning is an urgent issue for the whole world. And the Sverdlovsk region, our cities and towns are no exception. The way we develop urban spaces directly affects the quality of life of the people in them. The first Urban Skills championship will be held in 11 competencies in the field of construction, urban studies and housing and communal services. More than 100 contestants and experts will take part in it.

"Industry championships allow us not only to identify the most talented, but also to understand how modern technologies are used in the urban environment, identify conditions for high—quality personnel training, and update existing specialist training programs."
For the Urban Skills championship, traditional competencies for the field of urban planning and landscaping were selected: "Painting and decorative work", "Plumbing and heating", "Bricklaying", etc. In addition to the standard block, competencies developed from scratch will also be included, which arise during the transformation of traditional industries under the influence of digital technologies, for example, "BIM Information Modeling Technologies" and "GIS Analytics". The ability to competently analyze spatial data is becoming a prerequisite when evaluating urban development plans. Having many years of experience in working with data, processing technologies and visualization of the results obtained, PJSC Rostelecom came up with the idea of developing the GIS Analytics competence. The contestants will be asked to complete a task to assess the prospects for the development of the city's territory, develop recommendations for the construction of social infrastructure and other sectors of the city's life.
The Housing and Communal Services Foundation initiated the creation of the competencies "Operation and maintenance of an apartment building" and "Urbanism: Urban Planning", which were included in the Urban Skills competition program. The active reform of the housing and communal services system has created a need for specialists who are able to monitor the provision of favorable and safe living conditions for citizens, the proper maintenance and use of common property, and have an understanding of the urbanization process and the environmental, transport, historical, cultural and other problems that arise on its basis.

And it is very important that today it is the young citizens of our country who participate in the transformation of cities, helping residents to create comfortable and safe living conditions. The competencies developed on our initiative meet the most up-to—date trends in the development of construction and housing and communal services and contribute to the creation of a talent pool of young professionals who have been trained using modern methods and are ready to work effectively immediately after graduating from college or university," says Olga Grishina, Head of the Housing and Communal Services Foundation's Training Projects Department.
The Urban Skills Championship will be held within the framework of the international construction forum and the 100+ TechnoBuild exhibition, the key objective of which is to present the latest achievements in construction, technologies and projects for the development of modern cities.
The opening and closing ceremonies are scheduled for October 5 and 8, 2021, respectively, on the territory of the Yekaterinburg-Expo IEC.
