The organizers of the Yekaterinburg City building project competition expect harmony and balance

An architectural competition for the best concept of a multifunctional urban center "Yekaterinburg City" has been announced in Yekaterinburg. The founder is UMMC-Holding LLC with the support of the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure Development of the Sverdlovsk Region, the Yekaterinburg City Administration and the NGO SRO Guild of Builders of the Urals.

The idea of the project is to hold an architectural competition that embodies in practice advanced Russian and international achievements in the design and construction of multi-storey residential buildings and multifunctional buildings.

At the presentation of the competition on April 12, Sergey Bidonko, Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Development of the Sverdlovsk Region, stressed the importance and necessity of holding such a competition for the development of Yekaterinburg. Alexey Belyshev, Deputy Head of the Yekaterinburg City Administration for Capital Construction and Land Use, noted that such a competition is needed to ensure that projects for the development of significant sites in the city are viewed from different perspectives and help create a new look for the city, given that the territory of Yekaterinburg City is a place of great historical and social significance for the city.. "The projects must take into account all the features of this territory: the current location of cultural heritage sites, plans for high-rise construction, the connection of underground and public spaces, the organization of pedestrian traffic. As a result, we expect that the Yekaterinburg City site will become the epitome of innovations and the decoration of the whole city," said Alexey Belyshev.

Sergey Yerypalov, Director of Capital Construction and Investments at UMMC-Holding LLC, added that the two previous City projects do not take into account the most important thing – the specifics of Yekaterinburg itself: "We want the city to develop comprehensively, comprehensively, in harmony with neighboring built-up areas, taking into account historical monuments and places."

Vera Belous, Executive Director of the Ural Builders Guild, spoke about the main conditions of the competition. The competition is open. Professional architects and designers, as well as students of specialized universities and faculties, can take part in it. Participation in the contest is free of charge. The winners are determined in two nominations: by the decision of the jury in the nomination "Best project" of the Multifunctional urban center "Yekaterinburg-CITY", as well as by the results of online voting in the nomination "Audience Award". Registration of applications for the competition begins on April 20, 2016, and registration ends on July 15, 2016.The deadline for accepting entries is September 01, 2016.

Yekaterinburg City is a business district under construction in the center of the Ural capital. The main investor and developer of the project is UMMC Holding. As part of the competition task, participants need to make a project for the development of a site for Yekaterinburg City: think over the functional zoning of the territory, propose a building concept, a spatial solution for the complex, find an architectural and artistic image of the object, execute a draft design of the stylobate space, and show the high-rise buildings conditionally. According to the terms of the competition, the participant must provide for the qualities inherent in "sustainable architecture" and develop a plan for the preservation of historical buildings in the City. As part of the project, the author needs to draw three new high-rise buildings (150-200 meters, 100-200 meters, 250-270 meters), a stylobate 2-5 floors high, several residential buildings up to 75 meters, underground parking, a concert hall for 2000-2500 people.
