The 100+ Forum Russia reviewed the prospects for the integrated development of underground space in Russia

The business program of the second day of the forum began with the session "The World Underground. Underground construction as a guarantee of the effective functioning of the urban environment", organized by the Vedomosti Conference Department. The session was moderated by Evgeny Lipovich, Deputy Head of the Yekaterinburg City Administration for Landscaping, Transport and Ecology.

One of the speakers, Valery Belyaev, Associate Professor of the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning at MGSU, noted that in 2016 the forum "achieved a balance of information between "high-rise" and "underground", like a tree with a crown and a root system, and both components are equally important."

The speakers also noted the importance of the underground topic in general, since today issues for discussion and decision-making are not only the coordination and planning of development of the aboveground and underground parts of cities, but also the legal support of this activity, as well as the application of the Law of the Republic of Moldova "On Subsoil", which, according to the speakers, urgent amendments are overdue.

Using the example of several specific projects, options for the safe and ergonomic use of underground spaces were considered, both as parking spaces and storage spaces, as well as for the creation of recreational and shopping areas. For example, the Sadovye Kvartaly residential complex, which is being built on the site of the Rubber plant in the Khamovniki district of Moscow, was cited as a striking example. Two—level squares and esplanades, a sports area, an embankment with a pond at -10.2 m, office spaces and guest parking lots - all this is underground, and housing is separated from public spaces by 18 meters.

In addition, reports were made on the development of pedestrian and automobile interchanges, the construction of tunnels, and the integration of parking areas into modern urban infrastructure.
