ARCH EURASIA 2018 International Forum

The skyscrapers of Asia or the low-rise neighborhoods of Europe? In Yekaterinburg, experts will discuss promising residential development formats in the Eurasian space.

In December 2018, the First International Forum of Urban Planning, Architecture and Design ARCH EURASIA will be held at the 100+ Forum Russia in Yekaterinburg, which will become a geocentric communication platform for urban planners, urbanists, architects and designers of the Eurasian continent.

The idea of creating a large discussion platform for international experts was born against the background of another significant event – the merger of two reputable architecture and design competitions held in the Urals.

Mikhail Vyatkin, Honored Architect of Russia, curator of the Organizing Committee's working group:

- Last year, the regional association of the Union of Architects, under whose flags the Hand of the Master review competition has been held for many years, and the organizing committee of the Eurasian Prize International Architecture and Design Competition and Festival decided to join forces. According to our idea, a new powerful professional competition, which inherited the name "Eurasian Award", will unite the professional community and identify the best specialists in the field of architecture, urban planning and design in the Eurasian space.  

At the same time, it was important for us not only to create an up-to-date competition program, but also to initiate a dialogue with Russian and foreign experts, to discuss the most pressing issues of architecture, urban planning and design that concern the entire professional community. This is how the idea of the ARCH EURASIA International Forum arose.

The ARCH OF EURASIA business program will be held within the framework of the international forum of high-rise and unique construction 100+ Forum Russia, which is held annually in the Ural capital and has already managed to gain the status of one of the most important professional events in the circles of Russian and foreign experts. Both events will be held at the site of the Yekaterinburg-EXPO IEC from December 5 to December 7, 2018, which will attract the maximum number of experts to the discussion.

It is logical to assume that such an association will provide a serious synergetic effect and make Yekaterinburg the most important center for the development of urban planning, architecture and design throughout the Eurasian space. Mikhail Volkov, Minister of Construction and Infrastructure of the Sverdlovsk Region, hopes that "ARCHEURASIA 2018" will complement the thematic content of 100+ ForumRussia and will allow discussing current topics of architecture, urban planning and design with professionals from leading countries of the Eurasian space, and choosing the most effective vector along which modern cities will move in their development. "Such an event is a good bid by Yekaterinburg and the Middle Urals to become a center for combining the best urban planning practices," said the head of the regional Ministry of Construction.

The program of the ARCH EURASIA 2018 Forum includes:

• Architectural Congress (December 5, 2018);
• Design and Technology Summit (December 5, 2018);
• The solemn award ceremony of the international competition
  "Eurasian Prize" and the Grand Prix "The Hand of the Master" (December 6, 2018);
• Exhibition and installation of architectural and design projects and
  the latest materials and technologies for the architectural and design industry (December 5-7, 2018).

The Organizing Committee plans to hold the ARCH EURASIA Forum in an annual format, each time choosing a new relevant topic for discussion.The problems of designing and building comfortable housing and organizing a new quality of life in the territories of the Eurasian countries united by the concept of the "Silk Road" will be discussed at the First Forum in December 2018.

Architects and urban planners, developers and builders, planners and designers, designers and decorators from Russia, CIS and far abroad will gather for a constructive dialogue, exchange of experience and discussions on the topic "Housing in the Eurasian space".

The idea of the Silk Road has become decisive in choosing the geography of the Forum participants. Japan, China, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands – these are the chain of countries along which the most intensive development of cities, industry and logistics is expected. And the creation of a discussion platform for the exchange of technologies and achievements in the field of urban planning, architecture and design in Yekaterinburg, located at the junction of Europe and Asia, is perceived as a logical and very right step.

Due to its unique geographical location, Yekaterinburg has incorporated elements of both European and Asian approaches to architecture and urban planning. The main task now is to determine in which direction the Ural capital should move, which urban planning practices, technologies and quality standards of the urban environment we should adopt. The ARCH EURASIA Forum opens up wide opportunities for the further development of Yekaterinburg and the cities of the Yekaterinburg agglomeration, and allows us to summarize the diverse experience of foreign colleagues in order to eventually find our own unique path.
