How not to repeat the mistakes of cities organized around cars

Introducing the speakers of 100+ Forum Russia: Vukan Vuchik, Professor Emeritus at the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, USA), PhD, renowned expert in the design of transportation systems. His research on urban transport systems, planning and principles of traffic flows are described in the books "Trilogy of Transit" and translated into several languages.

Dr. Vucik has worked as a consultant for the U.S. Department of Transportation, in Belgrade, Beijing, Lima, Naples, Rome, Singapore, as well as in the design of the Moscow Metro. He is a foreign member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, as well as the Russian Academy of Architecture and Building Sciences (RAASN). In 2011, Vukan Vucik received an honorary doctorate in CNAM University in Paris, in 2014 — in University of Waterloo in Canada.

The expert will present two reports to the forum participants: "Urban transport in Russian cities in recent years: successes and failures" and "How not to repeat the mistakes of cities organized around cars." It will focus on the development of transport technologies that affect the viability of cities, and even their structure. Vukan Vuchik will tell you how many American cities neglected public transport and became uninhabitable during the reorganization process. Using the example of different countries, the professor will show solutions to transport problems.
