Aluminum in architecture and construction: the first international forum will be held in Moscow

From April 2 to 5, 2019, the Expocentre Fairgrounds in Moscow will host the International Aluminum in Architecture and Construction Forum for the first time as part of the RosBuild 2019 exhibition and the Russian Construction Week.

The forum will consist of three sections: an exhibition, a business program, and an Aluminum in Architecture competition.

The exhibition will showcase samples of aluminum and aluminum products used in architectural and construction practice. These are translucent structures of high-rise buildings, wall panels, profile systems of window and door openings, decoration of subway and TPU stations, pedestrian and automobile bridges, cable products, large-span structures, load-bearing and finishing materials for sports facilities, stained glass windows, roofs and suspended ceilings, furniture and interior decor.

The business program is aimed at interaction and wide exchange of experience between domestic and foreign aluminum producers and consumers. Industry leaders will discuss new approaches to building design using aluminum products, updating the regulatory framework, issues of designing according to the standards of "green" construction, and many others.

Within the framework of the forum, a Russian competition with international participation "Aluminum in Architecture" will be held – the only competition in Russia that demonstrates the capabilities of aluminum in completed facilities, as well as reveals the prospects for using this material in designed works. The participants of the competition will be Russian and foreign architects, planners, restorers, designers, architectural bureaus, studios and workshops, design, production and construction organizations, architecture and urban planning authorities of regions and cities of Russia, investment and development companies, specialized universities and faculties.

In recent years, vivid and memorable projects of sports facilities using aluminum products have been created. The use of aluminum in transport facilities has increased significantly, and aluminum is rarely used in any of the modern metro stations. New buildings at airports, TPU, and train stations demonstrate the variety of aluminum shapes and finishes used.

Most architectural projects feature translucent structures combining aluminum and glass, which have become one of the most sought-after materials in creating eco-friendly architecture. The implementation of projects using aluminum and glass according to the standards of "green" construction takes into account the problems of environmental protection, material resources, and energy consumption.

A new direction is the construction of bridges made of aluminum. The first bridge of this type in Russia was installed in Nizhny Novgorod.

The winner of the competition will be awarded the National Prize for the best realized object using aluminum in architecture and construction.

The initiator and founder of the forum is the Aluminum Association. The organizers of the forum are the Union of Architects of Russia and the Union of Moscow Architects.
