100+ Speaker: Erez Ella

"The most promising architect under the age of 40" according to Wallpaper Magazine is Erez Ella, HQ Architects (Israel).

HQ Architects challenges conventions and creates culturally complex buildings, spaces, and urban environments.

Focusing on a strong pragmatic and programmatic approach, the company's practice combines innovative and high-quality design with strong technical expertise.

HQ Architects joined with Kazuyo Sejima + Ryue Nishizawa / S A N A A to realize the new Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, which is currently under construction (it occupies about 45,000 square meters).

HQ Architects' interest in technology-oriented design is evident in various projects, for example, the company was part of the American-Israeli team in NASA's Mars Habitat Challenge, in which participants had to present the best concepts for creating Martian colonies.

Prior to founding the HQ Architects headquarters in Tel Aviv in 2008, Ella worked for several years as an employee and partner of two architectural firms: OMA (1999 and 2005) and REX (2006-2008). At REX, he was one of the leaders of projects such as Museum Plaza in Louisville, at OMA he worked as an architect for the China Central Television (TVCC) Television Cultural Center in Beijing and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, and together with his former partner he designed the Wiley Theater in Dallas.

Erez was one of the curators of the Israeli pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2012 and is the co-editor of an architectural book titled "Aircraft Carrier - American Ideas and Israeli Architectures after 1973" (Hajte Cantz, 2012).

In 2011, Erez founded and still heads the research department "Mechanism of Design and Urbanism" at the Bezalel School of Architecture.

As part of the 100+ TechnoBuild forum program, Erez Ella will talk about the design of the future. The full program and schedule will appear closer to the dates of the event.
