Monument to the lost fishermen | Gikalo Kuptsov Architects

The monument to the dead fishermen was unveiled on the site of a foundation stone that previously stood in the center of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, at the intersection of Leningradskaya Street and the stairs leading to Klyuchevskaya Street, in close proximity to the main building of Okeanrybflot.

The 5.4 m high monument is visually divided into two parts: a pedestal made of black granite with the text of the epitaph (square in plan 1.4x1.4 m, 1.2 m high) and crowning it a 4.2 m high sculptural group made of polished stainless steel – a pair of fish and three seagulls. Pollock fish, the basis of the company's fishery, are located on a kind of water surface made of stainless steel sheet on a granite parallelepiped; seagulls are alone in the process of catching fish, and a pair is directed to the sky – an allegory for the hard and dangerous work of a fisherman.

It was installed within the framework of the Okeanrybflot territory development concept: the creation of a corporate Museum, landscaping of the adjacent site and the final chord – a Monument.
