Okeanrybflot Museum | Gikalo Kuptsov Architects
The Okeanrybflot Corporate Museum is located in the reconstructed building of the former Vulkan restaurant in the immediate vicinity of the main building of the company. During the reconstruction, the Museum building acquired new facades with a multi-layered structure. The inner layer is a black granite veneer. The outer layer is formed by perforated aluminum panels painted white. Decorative dynamic lighting is arranged between the inner and outer layers of the facades, changing the color from white to dark blue and creating the effect of an oncoming wave. The perforation of the panels forms a decorative panel. The theme of the panel reflects the content of the Museum's exposition, which tells about the work and life of fishermen in Kamchatka.
The entrance to the Museum is organized through double-leafed glass doors with the Okeanrybflot logo on the semicircular transom. Passing through a glass vestibule flanked by two anchors, visitors find themselves in the first hall. There is a round information desk directly opposite the entrance, where visitors are greeted by museum staff. A cube is placed behind it, enclosing a free-access wardrobe with lockers. Display cases with souvenirs are built into the wall of the cube facing the entrance. The volumes of the information desk and wardrobe divide the space of the first hall into two zones: the entrance hall is a gathering place and waiting area for tourists, with an exhibition introducing the topic of industrial fishing, and a zone dedicated to Kamchatka, the hometown of the company. A video clip played on an LCD screen and information on the stands located around the perimeter tells about the history of the region, its present and future. A multimedia console built into a pedestal in the center of this zone allows you to see the fish and other marine life of Kamchatka in their natural environment and participate in a quiz.
The second hall of the Museum is dedicated to fishing, the history and development of the company's technologies. The subject part of the exhibition consists of artifacts: authentic samples of tools and everyday life of fishermen and sailors. The glass case displays items related to the history of the Georgy Meshcheryakov super trawler, the company's new flagship named after its founder and first chief executive. The ship's chronometer and lamps, porthole, kitchen tables and a sextant, a coil of ropes and a lifebuoy, a propeller blade and a compass are displayed on various cylindrical podiums. An interactive installation with a map of the seas and oceans, where vessels of the Okeanrybflot fleet have historically been and are currently fishing, provides an opportunity to learn about each of them. The media screen "Production chain" clearly shows the fishing path of fish – from entering the trawl to the final consumer. The Museum's exposition culminates with a virtual tour of the Georgy Meshcheryakov super trawler, during which everyone can explore all the compartments of the newest fishing vessel and feel like a captain leading his powerful ship across the seas and oceans.
The third hall of the Museum is dedicated to the main wealth of Okeanrybflot JSC – employees. Interactive expositions placed on the long sides of the hall tell about the company's past and present, about its role in the development of the Kamchatka fishing industry, about veterans, management and the contribution of each employee to the overall achievements. A lifeboat occupies the center of the hall, and a holographic screen is installed at the end of the hall, demonstrating a 3D model of a modern fishing vessel. Social responsibility of the company, assistance to sponsored organizations – these topics are covered by videos projected on a panoramic screen at the end of the hall and completing the Museum's exposition.
