ITOWER WHITE | BLOK STUDIO
The apartment has an area of 81 sq. m.
The architectural approach is to work with space: An architectural interior is an integral three—dimensional composition, where each line is subordinated to a composition, and each composition is a function. The designers worked with the shape of the original space. The ceiling height of 4 meters allowed to create a two-level space. The small area of the kitchen-living room led to the decision to make a staircase integrated into the wall, saving space. The principle of observing the axes helped to create harmony in the three-dimensional composition.
The ideas of functionalism: The form appears from the function of the object, the use of concrete material, white color, large clean planes. These ideas are complemented by the requirements of comfort and the concept of preserving historical values.
Mood in the interior: We decided not to create a permanent mood through the color of the walls or textures. Instead, we use light, which creates different moods depending on the season, weather, and time of day. The light falling on the large white planes sets a mood that changes over time.
The idea of combining old and new: The principles of functionalism are complemented by the requirements of comfort. Vintage items fit into a new space, revealing the concept of forming a new based on the old.
Decor: Some were donated by loved ones: Kaslin casting, Zenith cameras, books, a Salyut table lamp, crystal tableware and brass candlesticks. Other items were created by us: tiles in the kitchen with images of favorite projects, a countertop with mosaics, a grid in the office for photos and postcards.
Details with stories:
The Sickle and Hammer mosaic table is a valuable interior piece that preserves the history of one of the oldest factories in Central Russia, Sickle and Hammer (1883-2022). Mosaic staircases were saved. The mosaic segments were brought to Yekaterinburg. None of the segments formed a complete pattern. In the process of thinking about preserving the historical value of the mosaic, it was decided to create a new object — a table. Based on one of the segments, a new plot was created using neural networks, embodying the concept of day and night.
