Earthquake-resistant fire protection of metal structures of secondary school No. 2 Ob of the Novosibirsk region | MiC-Izol

The fire resistance of metal structures without fire protection is quite low: metals are structurally quite sensitive to high temperatures and fire. From Soviet times to the present, the following fire protection methods have been used to increase the fire resistance limits of steel structures to standardized values:

  • concreting;
  • fire-resistant cladding (brick, plasterboard);
  • flame-retardant coatings (plasters, phosphate coating);
  • bulging flame retardant coatings.

Each method has its advantages and disadvantages, when choosing fire protection, many factors must be taken into account: the time of application (construction or reconstruction of a building), operating conditions, surface preparation features, application complexity, weight of fire protection, control of the required layer thickness, coating service life, the need for reapplication after 3-5 years (in the case of fire-resistant coatings) to increase their stability and efficiency, environmental properties of materials, aesthetic appearance of the finished structure, etc.

The territory of the Novosibirsk Region is part of the Altai-Sayan seismic zone. Novosibirsk region is located in the zone of possible shaking with an intensity from 5 to 8 points. In 2023, 5 seismic events with a magnitude from 3.1 to 4.6 occurred in the Novosibirsk region. Earthquake damage and the number of human casualties can be reduced by creating maps of seismic zoning and earthquake-resistant construction.

The integrated structural fire protection system for metal structures "OBM-met" used in the fire protection project of school No. 2 meets the requirements for construction in seismic areas and is certified for earthquake resistance up to 9 points on the MSK-64 scale.

Proposal: The innovative idea of the project is to use an earthquake—resistant structural fire protection system for metal structures "OBM-Met", consisting of a basalt rolled OBM material (possible lining options: without lining, lined with aluminum foil, glass, basalt and silica fabric, metal mesh, glass mesh) and an Expert Standard flame retardant coating.

Technical characteristics of the OBM-met system

  • Flame retardant efficiency, min: 60-150
  • Earthquake resistance performance up to 9 points on the MSK-64 scale
  • Non-flammable material. No binder is used in the production of MBM material, only basalt fibers. Therefore, the operating temperature of the basalt material is up to 1100 ° C when used as fire protection.
  • The density of the rolled basalt material, which is included in the OBM-Met system, is not less than 70 kg/m3. This ensures the required fire resistance limit with minimal load on the supporting structures.

Environmental safety. The MBM material is made from superfine basalt fiber without the use of a binder, which makes it environmentally friendly to use. The fire-resistant coating by Expert Standard is environmentally, fire- and explosion-proof. It also lacks substances that emit toxic gases when heated. Fire-resistant basalt material OBM meets sanitary, epidemiological and hygienic requirements, and is also certified according to environmental requirements.

The benefits of this innovation

  1. Ensuring a high fire resistance limit with minimal load on the supporting structures
  2. The possibility of using the material in the most earthquake-prone regions of the Russian Federation (Kamchatka Territory, Republic of Buryatia, Irkutsk Region, Republic of Tyva, Trans-Baikal Territory, Amur Region, Khabarovsk Territory, Sakhalin Region, Primorsky Territory, Chukotka Autonomous District, Republic of Khakassia, many republics of the North Caucasus and the south of the Crimean Peninsula, the north-western part of the Republic of Yakutia, Magadan Region).
  3. Increased vibration resistance, additional sound insulation.
  4. The simplicity and ease of application (Using an Expert Standard flame retardant coating makes installation of the system quick and convenient. When using the Expert Standard winter Frost series coating as an adhesive, installation is possible at temperatures up to -15 °C)
  5. Durability and maintainability (the service life of the OBM-Met system is 25 years)
  6. High quality of products and works, thanks to a certified quality management system and a full production cycle from design to installation.
