The stele of the Saur-Grave Memorial complex | Stalproekt LLC
The 36-meter-high stele of the Saur-Grave memorial complex, erected as part of the restoration of the memorial, has a non-trivial design scheme, which is quite rare.
Saur-Grave is a high hill dominating the Donetsk steppe, and a kind of cornerstone of Donbass. In 1943, the Red Army fought the fiercest battles with the German Fascist invaders in this place.
In 1960, the Donetsk organization of the Union of Architects of the USSR announced an open competition for the best design of a new monument on Saur-Grave. In total, 37 creative organizations from the Ukrainian SSR and the RSFSR took part in the competition. As a result, the winner was the Kiev team of sculptors and architects consisting of Florian Kotsyubinsky, Ivan Gorovoy and Xanthius Kuznetsov.
In the summer of 2014, during the month for Fierce battles were fought between the armed forces of the self-proclaimed DPR and Grave Ukraine. The height was finally occupied by Donetsk militia in late August 2014. As a result of the shelling by the Ukrainian security forces, the memorial was severely damaged. The obelisk and the soldier's figure were destroyed, and the pylons and bas-reliefs were significantly damaged.
On July 1, 2022, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced the reconstruction of the memorial.
Due to the complete destruction of the memorial, the new Stele was redesigned by the specialists of STALPROEKT LLC, while the design of the Stele was left the same. The design of the Stele is a load-bearing shell with a loosening inner frame, this solution made it possible to optimize the weight, which as a result amounted to 150 tons, while the shell serves as a reliable base for facing structures. The installation scheme provided for the breakdown of the structure into enlarged mounting blocks, which were attached to each other on high-strength bolts, which made it possible to install in a short time while minimizing labor costs at the construction site.
