Reconstruction of Novosibirsk airport (Tolmachevo) | LLC "R.O.S.MET."

Pokryshkin Novosibirsk (Tolmachevo) International Airport is one of the most intensively developing airports of federal significance, the largest transit hub beyond the Urals on the most important routes connecting Europe and Asia. Novosibirsk Airport's geographical location allows it to serve promising cross-polar routes connecting North America and Asia. The airport is located 17 km west of the center of Novosibirsk, the administrative center of the Novosibirsk Region and the Siberian Federal District. The region where the airport is located is characterized by a high level of economic development and the maximum population density for the Asian part of Russia — about 9 million people live within 500 km from Tolmachevo airport. At the same time, the demand of Siberian residents for air transportation is growing twice as fast as the average in Russia.

Due to its advantageous location and extensive route network, Tolmachevo Airport traditionally serves a significant number of passengers not only from Novosibirsk Region, but also from nearby regions — Tomsk, Kemerovo regions, Altai Territory and the Altai Republic.

The concentration of railway, automobile and water transport routes in Novosibirsk and the expansion of trade and economic ties between the Siberian Federal District and foreign and Russian partners contribute to the development of Tolmachevo as the largest air transport hub.

The facades of the airport complex are interpreted as a single glass ribbon that "wraps" the building around the perimeter and emphasizes the higher central volume in which the main entrances and the main lobby are located. The compositional dominant of the interior of the main lobby of the airport are columns lined with stainless steel and their outlines evoke associations with aircraft turbines. The choice of glass with a low reflection effect as the main cladding material will achieve the effect of interpenetration of the street and the interior space, and thoughtful evening lighting will make the complex a noticeable landmark for both people approaching the airport and passengers arriving by plane. One of the key elements of the concept will also be the appearance on the forecourt of the art object "Meeting Point" - a meeting place for passengers and guests of Tolmachevo airport. "The main idea of the airport's architectural and planning solution is the unity of its external embodiment and internal content. Internal public spaces serve as a natural and integral continuation of the building's facade solutions, making the boundary between its exterior and interiors conditional, and thereby forming a dynamic modern image of the city's air gates."
