Gubernatorial Lyceum | R1 Design Bureau

Starting in July 2019, the R1 design bureau team participated in the design of a large modern educational facility, the Gubernatorial Lyceum in the Solnechny district of Yekaterinburg.

The lyceum concept was developed by the architectural bureau @atelierpro.nl from the Netherlands. R1 were consultants and adaptors of the concept to local conditions.

In close cooperation between Dutch colleagues, R1 specialists and @forum_ekaterinburg, the functional scheme and aesthetics of the future school with a block of additional education and the Quantorium technopark were born. During the design of the school, the architects of R1.Lab worked for a month and a half in the atelier PRO office in The Hague, thanks to which we were able to interact with colleagues in person, quickly solve design issues, gained experience in cooperation with European architects, and also visited modern schools in the Netherlands.

The facility is unique for our region, as it combines the functions of a general education institution and a community center for residents of the district with a library, media space, climbing wall, gym and various clubs and lecture halls.

The Governor's Lyceum is located in the new residential area of Sunny in Yekaterinburg @sunny_district_official, one of the features of which is an integrated approach to the formation of educational and social infrastructure.

The new school is part of a cluster that, in addition to the lyceum itself, will include an innovative kindergarten and an Artistic and Aesthetic Gymnastics Center. All cluster objects are connected by a single public space — the linear park "Sunny Alleys".

Individual interiors and landscaping designs have been developed for atelier PRO Lyceum. Our team of architects, designers, general planning specialists, and engineers searched for technical solutions for the implementation of bold ideas.

The most difficult and at the same time creative task was to preserve the concept in terms of adaptation to Russian standards as part of the state examination of project documentation.

For the full implementation of the project, the essence of which is a modern educational space based on the principles of openness and accessibility, contributing to the harmonious development of the child, in the realities of existing Russian standards, Special Technical Conditions (STS) have been developed to ensure the fire safety of the facility.
