SCM Business Center | SCM Development
The SCM business center is located in the central part of the city at the intersection of Chapaev and Dekabristov streets, near the floodplain of the Iset River, and has high transport accessibility. The facility is surrounded by established historical buildings and a well—developed business zone, as well as an iconic sports facility, the Ice Arena.
One of the difficult tasks that the designers were able to solve was the organization of a competent neighborhood of the business center with a 110 kV cable line that runs through the site along Dekabristov Street. To enable the operation and maintenance of the cable line on the 1st floor of the building, a unique superstructure was designed, which not only did not spoil the appearance of the building, but transformed into an arch opening a passage to the courtyards of the historical quarter.
Since underground parking is not possible on the site, the heated parking was moved to the second floor of the building, while due to stylistic elements, parking is almost invisible from the outside of the building. Due to the small number of floors, the building has an atmosphere of tranquility. On the ground floor there are lobbies, elevator halls and offices with customer traffic. The second floor is occupied by a parking lot. The third and fourth floors are office spaces.
Another feature of the building's layout is the presence of two separate main entrances from Chapaev and Dekabristov streets, which makes it possible to separate traffic flows.
The SCM business center faces Chapaev Street and Dekabristov Street, "embracing" the architectural monument at Chapaev, 2. The Afonin House is a stone one—story apartment building of the second half of the 19th century. The angular position of the office building, as well as the architectural monument, determined the equivalence of two street facades — the northern one facing the Decembrists and the eastern one facing Chapaev.
The stone residential building of merchant I. Afonin, built in the late 1870s, directly influenced the architectural concept of the building of the SCM Business Center. The symmetrical facades and deep brick color of the mansion became the inspiration for creating the look of the new office building.
The historical scale of the street was reflected in the two-story porticos, which were lifted off the ground and seemed to soar upward. And the play of light and shadow reveals the full depth of the volume. The building does not look like it has four floors: due to the vertical strings and porticoes, its scale is doubled and visually has only two floors. Therefore, all the attention of the Chapaev-Dekabristov intersection is focused on historical buildings, and the new building does not completely copy the style of the quarter, but delicately gives way to history.
The architectural illumination of the Business Center is made in a restrained warm light, which unobtrusively highlights the volume of the building and forms the background for the historical building located in "its" embrace.
The main innovative component of the SCM business center is how it harmoniously fits modern design and functionality into a historical context. The three-dimensional arch in the middle of the building, the relocation of the parking lot to the second floor and its masking from the street side show the adaptation of the functionality of the SCM business center. A small number of floors, symmetrical facades, deep brick color and two-story porticos are balanced by modern materials and details such as metal cassettes, aluminum profiles, stained glass windows.
