The village of the International University Sports Festival was built in Novokoltsovsky district in the south-east of Yekaterinburg on an area of 33 hectares. The complex of facilities includes a Palace of Water Sports, public and medical centers, dormitories and a training field with athletics tracks, a street and road network, a drainage channel collector.

Community Center

The 31,350 square meter community center will become the administrative core of the festival. It will house an International Welcome and Accreditation Hall, delegation offices, a power supply unit, a sports center with an arena and a gym, a joint security center, and a data processing center. The data center will collect and analyze information about the state of security, fire fighting, life support and resource support systems for the entire village.

In the heritage mode, the community center will become the main academic building of the future campus of Ural Federal University.

Functional sectors for the legacy period:

Dormitories

The dormitories are located on a plot of 11 hectares. In total, five complexes with an area of more than 209 thousand square meters have been built. Each building has 836 living rooms with kitchen niches. They are equipped with cooking surfaces, refrigerators, hoods, electric kettles, and microwave ovens. Much attention is paid to security: the guest entrances are equipped with turnstiles, fire and burglar alarms, access control and management system are installed. Next to the buildings, there is a central square in the form of an amphitheater, as well as sports and playgrounds for comfortable outdoor recreation.

Planning solutions:

Corridor planning structure: living spaces are located on both sides of the building, with exits to a common corridor.
Each room, designed for two people, has a kitchen niche, an entrance hall and a bathroom with shower. The complex provides universal rooms for people with limited mobility.
Each floor has areas for washing, drying and ironing clothes, a running room, a cleaning equipment room, a study room, and a recreation area.
The buildings have six elevators, three with a lifting capacity of 1OOO kg and three with a lifting capacity of 400 kg.
The first floors include a block of administrative and utility rooms, an electrical panel, and a server room.

During the International University Sports Festival, participants from the BRICS, SCO and CIS countries will live in dormitories, after the competition — UrFU students.

Medical Center

The medical center with an area of over 7 thousand square meters is designed to provide primary specialized medical and sanitary care. The capacity is 300 people per shift.

Functional blocks:

Anti-doping control unit, clinical and diagnostic laboratory.
Infectious diseases department, day hospital.
Emergency department of traumatology, physiotherapy department.
Offices of doctors of functional diagnostics, dental department.
Pharmacy.

The training field

Classes and tournaments in game sports and athletics can be held on the training field. A long jump zone has been created in the northern sector, while the southern sector is equipped for high jumps. A large information board has been installed for the convenience of the audience. Infrastructure facilities have been built in the immediate vicinity: locker rooms, showers, a coaching room, and a cafe. The landscaping was carried out taking into account the conditions for low-mobility groups of the population.

The Palace of Water Sports

The palace with a total area of 61,000 square meters is designed for training sessions and sports competitions in swimming, diving, water polo and synchronized swimming, as well as free admission.

Swimming pools:

For diving 25x25 m in size and 5 m deep with a set of towers and trampolines
The demo is 52.54×25 m in size, 3 m deep, with the possibility of transformation into 2 bowls due to a mobile side
A training (warm-up) one measuring 52.54×25 m, 3 m deep, with the possibility of transformation into 2 bowls due to a mobile board
Children's size: 22×6 m, depth 0.6-0.9 m

Infrastructure:

Special rooms for judges and organizers of competitions, coaches and instructors.

The most advanced technologies and materials were used in the construction of the Palace.

The training pool is a hermetically welded overflow bowl. All surfaces are made of high-quality stainless steel sheet.

The bowl of the demonstration pool is made using Skypool technology. It consists of sections mounted on a concrete base, made of stainless steel sheets around the perimeter of the structure. Also, the surface of the bowl is covered with a reinforced PVC membrane, which ensures complete tightness of the pool and reduces glare from floodlights.

Both pools are equipped with modern sports equipment. In particular, we are talking about sets of swimming lanes, water polo gates, starting bollards, finishing touch panels, and a photo finish system.

The diving pool is also made using Skypool technology and is equipped with a complex of trampolines and towers. A specialized anti-slip coating is applied to the platforms, ensuring maximum comfort and safety of athletes. In addition, the pool has a mechanical mixing system for the surface of the water, which helps in visual perception, as well as an underwater bubble machine that creates an air cushion.

All pools have specialized granite tiles, which reduce the risk of slipping on wet floors.

Due to the architectural solutions, the building has large stained glass windows, through which a lot of natural light penetrates. Blackout sunscreens are installed in the diving pool, which are quickly closed thanks to an automated control system and electric drives. This is necessary for a high-quality television broadcast of the competition.

Water treatment

All pools are equipped with a modern water treatment system: coagulation, filtration on multilayer filters, ozonation, chlorination.

For effective cleaning of the pool mirror, an overflow water exchange system is used, that is, the entire volume of water taken from the bowl for recirculation is diverted through overflow gutters and piped into a balanced reservoir.

The water treatment of sports bowls is eight hours, and that of children's bowls is 40 minutes. During this time, the water is constantly circulating, filtered, chlorinated and ozonated.

Also, the water temperature in the pools is maintained at a preset level. Swimming pools require +25-28 °C, and jumping pools require at least 26 °C.

Halls

The dry jumping hall has acrobatic tracks, trampolines, diving boards, and a foam landing pit.
In the dry swimming hall: a complex of strength and cardio equipment, as well as specialized simulators for swimmers.
In the choreography room: mirrors and choreographic machines.

Logistics

The Palace has a multi-level system for breeding the flow of people.

Landscaping of the village territory

Landscaping is one of the key areas of landscaping. It is of great importance in architectural planning and sanitary and hygienic plans, it allows to improve the social and aesthetic qualities of the improved territory.

On the territory of the village of the International University Sports Festival, 25,344 shrubs and 1,132 trees are planted, including larch, linden, spruce, apple, cherry, maple, birch, willow.

Conclusion

A large-scale complex has been built in Yekaterinburg, where participants from the BRICS, SCO and CIS countries will comfortably live, train and compete during the International University Sports Festival.

After the festival, the Palace of Water Sports is the most modern swimming complex in In Russia, it will become accessible to citizens. Everyone will be able to swim. Professional athletes will train in the best conditions, which will affect the development of water sports in the region.

The remaining facilities of the sports village will form the basis of the Ural Federal University campus. And at the end of 2025, the campus will be expanded with new buildings at the Institute of Information Technology, the Institute of Economics and Management, and a specialized educational and Scientific Center. Thus, a scientific and educational cluster with a powerful material and technical base will be formed in Yekaterinburg.
