Lesnoy (formerly Sverdlovsk-45) is one of the first closed cities of the USSR nuclear industry, founded in 1947 as a settlement at the Electrochempribor plant. Its planning structure reflects the principles of a "garden city" with sectorial division and conservation of woodlands. Historically, public life has been concentrated along the central axis — Kommunisticheskiy Prospekt, where key recreational areas are located: the Park of Culture and Recreation, Gagarin Square and others.

However, the active development of the western regions in the 1980s and 2010s, where today more than half of the 50,000 population lives, revealed a significant imbalance in providing these territories with high-quality public spaces. This problem was particularly acute in the MKR-5 microdistrict, where the area between Mira Street and the children's polyclinic, originally intended for a park area, remained an unclaimed wasteland with chaotic transit flows for decades.

The concept was based on a triad of principles: preservation of natural identity, functional diversity and engineering reliability. During the implementation process, 92% of the existing green spaces were preserved, while an extensive system of hiking trails with a total length of 2.3 km was created, including 420 meters of wooden decking in the area of periodic flooding.

Special attention was paid to the creation of multifunctional public spaces: a sports zone with a multi-purpose field and a workout area, a playground with age-related zoning, a multifunctional amphitheater with 120 seats, as well as a specialized dog walking area created at the request of residents.

The technical solutions of the project included a trenchless lighting system using garlands, as well as a modern drainage system that solved the problem of flooding. The project was implemented with the active participation of the local community, from the selection of art objects to the location of small architectural forms.
