Branch of the Tretyakov Gallery in Kaliningrad | METROPOLIS

The Branch building of the Tretyakov Gallery is part of the cultural and educational complex on Oktyabrsky Island in Kaliningrad. The project to create four cultural centers in Russian cities was initiated by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin in 2018.

  The museum's mission is to show the best examples of Russian art, to acquaint residents of the westernmost region with the cultural and ethnographic wealth of our country, as well as to make the branch of the Tretyakov Gallery a point of attraction for citizens and tourists, and a meeting place for experts. A place where art, science, creativity and self-expression come together.

 The architectural concept of the branch makes the museum an extension of the city: thanks to the glass walls of the ground floor, the passage inside the room to the first level is almost invisible, which creates the effect of an ongoing "city square". This is a public space: an atrium, shops, cafes, a library, a cinema (also known as a concert hall and lecture hall) – where you can come not only to exhibitions, but also to relax, hold meetings, and read.

  The history, geography, culture, and diversity of a large nation united by one territory, one destiny, and one memory will form the core of the new museum's exhibition projects and educational programs. Residents and guests of Kaliningrad, a region remote from the capital, will be able to see authentic masterpieces and experience the high level of Russia's national artistic wealth.
