Academy of Choreography in Sevastopol | METROPOLIS

The Academy of Choreography in Sevastopol is the first full–cycle professional ballet school in Crimea, which is part of the cultural and educational cluster at Cape Khrustalny. The project was implemented by the National Cultural Heritage Foundation, whose founders are the Tretyakov Gallery, the State Hermitage Museum, the Mariinsky and the Bolshoi Theaters.

  The building with a total area of 27,853 m2 of variable storeys (2 underground floors, 2-4 above ground) consists of six seismically stable blocks united in a closed perimeter with an open courtyard-recreation area of 2,250 m2.

 It reflects the trends of advanced world architecture with an original layout of building volumes, various facade elements and modern materials for exterior and interior decoration.

 The differences in the functional purpose of each unit impose fundamentally different requirements on structural and engineering solutions, microclimate, air exchange, acoustic comfort and energy efficiency. The building is located in a seismic zone (8 points), on a site with difficult terrain, in a marine climate.

 The Academy's own stage is a high-tech space for complex shorthand solutions, allowing for the staging of author's graduation performances and festivals.

  The location on the first line of the Black Sea coast makes the Academy the only federal choreographic school in Russia on the seashore: the seascape becomes part of the health and inspiration of the artists. The Academy has a center for ballet medicine and rehabilitation with doctors, nutritionists and physiotherapists, and the unique climate of Crimea is used to naturally strengthen the immune system and respiratory system.

  The campus operates on an all-inclusive basis: the academic building, boarding school, canteen, medical center and sports complex are connected by warm walkways, which guarantees safety and saves time. A smart power supply has been developed, adapted to the artists' workloads.
