Waver residential area | Architectural bureau "Close-up" (KPLN)
A residential quarter in Yekaterinburg on Vostochnaya Street – a dialogue of history and modernity. The project is based on the legacy of the Makarov Brothers Flax Spinning Factory, built in 1898, whose red brick buildings have partially survived to this day.
KPLN architects have reinterpreted the textile theme through the aesthetics of the facades: the perforated metal corten ribbon that weaves the air conditioning units resembles an interweaving of threads – a reference to the weaving past. Terracotta inserts under the clinker bricks connect the complex with the history and pre-revolutionary buildings.
The 29-storey tower with a height of about 100 meters acts not only as a high-rise, but also as a semantic dominant of the building. Her status was highlighted by three key decisions.
First of all, the expressive plasticity of the facades, the rhythm of which is set by the tiers varying in width: the volume of the building then narrows, then expands, creating the effect of a lively pulsation. The movement is accentuated by the facade ribbons, which simulate fabric vibrations in the wind.
The composition is complicated by a delicate "kink" relative to the central axis — this solution made it possible to optimize the insolation and reveal the best view characteristics. The final touch that reinforces the role of the accent is a well-thought-out architectural lighting scenario.
The concept of "intertwining threads" is also considered to be the basis for the improvement of a residential area. Geoplastics creates a soft undulating relief resembling folds of fabric. The project preserves the spirit of the place, turning the industrial heritage into a comfortable and attractive environment.
